Community Information Centres in Ontario
Information centres have a comprehensive database of government, community, counselling, health, recreation, religious, multicultural and non-profit organizations, services and programs. Some centres also keep local business information. Information centres exist to link people with the services that will meet their needs. The service is provided by telephone, in person, by fax, letter and e-mail. Services are provided free of charge and there is no requirement to identify yourself when seeking information. All inquiries are confidential.
In addition to providing an information and referral service, information centres often produce directories, pamphlets, lists, mailing labels and other information products. In some cases, there is a charge for these materials.
Many of the information centres in the City of Hamilton co-operatively manage a single online community database which can be searched at: http://www.inform.hamilton.ca.
